Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Impressions [Possible Spoilers]

To be perfectly honest, I believe that this was the first Potter film that I actually enjoyed more than the book. The Half-Blood Prince book was dreary and lacked a lot of the heart and personality that the other books showed, but the film was able to keep things interesting with good pacing and fun dialogue.

Yes, some facts (mostly concerning a lot of the research Harry and co. does in their search to discover the identity of the Half-Blood Prince) are left out as per usual in book-to-film transition, but I didn't think that would have been necessary for the audience. The "revelation" is more suitable for the medium because it saves time and is no less significant.

Anyway, the air of mystery surrounding certain characters never failed to keep me interested, the acting was great, and the dialogue was witty and well done. My only problem with Half-Blood Prince was that the end felt a bit rushed and a lot less dramatic than the book described. Yes, I read that Yates had plans to move a "certain event" to the beginning of the next film, but I really think that the ending would have greatly benefited from the battle the Death Eaters had with the Order at the end of the book. It just seemed all too easy in the film.

I am awarding Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince four stars out of five for being interesting and well done, but lacking the drama and excitement that we see at the end of the book.

I have heard a lot of criticism from my friends about how they believed the movie was boring and uneventful, but I really just think that their problems stemmed from Rowling's writing and their own ideas rather than the film itself. When you make a movie that is based off of a source and you actually care about staying true to the source as much as possible (mainly due to time constraints) then there isn't much room to do tampering. I've seen that situation go wrong in films way too many times to condone it. But that's just my two cents.

Possibly the Final Harry Potter Trailer

So hopefully this is the last of the Half-Blood Prince trailers. They have finally committed to putting a date at the end of this one, though I hear they may be moving it up two days, and it is by far the longest. I won't be holding my breath, though.

New Half-Blood Prince Trailer

Well it has been quite some time since we've gotten one of these. The big news? This movie still looks great. Oh, and it still has a July 17th release date. I'll be really interested to see how they insert so much of the extra action we've been seeing. I mean, I don't recall a bridge being totally destroyed in the book. Ah well, enjoy.

Another Half-Blood Prince Trailer...

Well, it's that time of the week again! No, not another depressingly boring Heroes episode... no, not mystery meat day at the cafeteria... why, it's time for another HBP trailer of course!

I swear, if they put out any more trailers of this film we are going to start seeing fan cut and paste versions of the entire movie! Sigh... perhaps they are trying to make up for delaying the film almost eight months just because they wanted to fill in the same weekend window that the Dark Knight did? Well I am not satisfied... at all. Hmph!

New Half-Blood Prince Trailer

Two posts in one day? Insane! Anyway, a friend of mine from deviantArt.com brought this to my attention a few minutes ago and I thought I would, in turn, bring it to your attention as well. Remember, the film is still set to release on July 17, 2009. Enjoy.

Half-Blood Prince Delayed Until Summer 2009

(Title image from here)

Big news Potter fans. As you can tell from the title, the previous release date for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, November 21st, 2008, has been pushed back to July 17th, 2009.

Why the delay you ask? Is it because the film is not yet complete? Is it because the film is tied up in some new controversy? Nope. The film has been pushed back in an attempt by Warner Bros. to "take advantage" of an open weekend in the summer '09 movie schedule. So in essence, the film studio hopes to make more money in the summer than they would have made in the winter. I personally think that this is ridiculous as all the Harry Potter films have been high grossing and I really don't think it will make that big of a difference when it is released. Also, this delay will mean a full two year gap between the previous film, The Order Of The Phoenix, and Half-Blood Prince. I really think this news will(has) upset most of the fans, but in the end they'll still be there on opening night. I know I will. But I definitely won't be wearing my nifty Hufflepuff robes. I can do that much against them at least... but maybe I'll still wear my tie. *cough*

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Trailer

The trailer for the next Harry Potter film, The Half-Blood Prince, dropped a few days ago and it looks promising. I really enjoyed The Order Of The Phoenix's dark spin on the previous films and this new movie really looks like it is holding to that precedent. I hope later trailers look as good. The movie itself is due to release on November 21st of this year.

Be sure to check out The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor this Friday if you'd like to see this trailer on the big screen, I'd honestly like to pass but I'll probably end up seeing it. I wish they would have kept Rachel Weisz as the wife though.
